The Bruins started their sell-off a few days ago with this move. Let’s look at some positive takeaways from the Frederic deal.
2025 2nd-rounder:
Sweeney has a knack for drafting NHL players from the second round, and this pick is a bullet in the trade. Some whispered it might only be worth a third-rounder, but Sweeney clearly maximized the return.
An additional player:
I don’t care if it was Par Lindholm from years ago—the fact that the Bruins got both a pick and a player for Frederic is pleasantly surprising. Defenseman Max Wanner isn’t the flashiest prospect, but with his stout defensive game and heavy 6’3” frame, he has an outside chance.
These two takeaways build up to a larger point: the market is great for sellers. When you have a middling team with poor additions and tired players, the opportunity couldn’t be more obvious.
