Bruins Will Get a Second Chance with Their Cap Situation

Watching this season and its downfall, you look at the contracts given to Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov and probably want to close your eyes. They aren’t as concerning as you might think, though, because the NHL salary cap is expected to rise significantly after this season—painting a more promising picture than fans might realize.

With a projected $24.10 million in cap space for next season, this roster isn’t hamstrung by recent contracts and can look to supplement the team differently, now that management knows what they know. If the Bruins feel Lindholm or Zadorov aren’t fitting well, other teams might even be interested in acquiring them.

If the team wants to keep players ready to keep pace with the league’s standards, expect them to potentially trade Poitras and let most impending free agents walk. There are a lot of players this team needs to evaluate with honest eyes.

  1. Let’s have the right person making those decisions, though. Sweeney is not the guy. We need a new vision.
