Walsh Is Improving, and That Could Mean More Than You Think

Celtics guard Jordan Walsh had a pretty nice-looking fourth quarter last game vs. Toronto, and that should have fans cautiously optimistic. If he checks a few boxes for the rest of the season, this team’s chances of repeating titles can be greatly improved.

Playing confident offensively: With any player who has the talent, it’s all about whether they can believe in their skill set enough so they won’t rush ball handling or getting to their spots. Walsh showed vs. Toronto what it looks like when he’s playing with confidence.

Using wingspan defensively: Jordan Walsh has great defensive potential, and his wingspan is a big part of that. If he can keep his arms in passing lanes and play within the defensive structure, everything else defensively will take care of itself.

Soaking in from Jayson/Jaylen: Moments like the video above really don’t have a price. Having Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown around, with a similar body profile in terms of lankiness and height, could alone be the reason why Walsh keeps improving toward a starting role down the line.

The Celtics’ brass has always talked about needing another player or unit to step up during a title repeat, and that it can’t look exactly the same. Perhaps Walsh is the variable that can get us where we want to be again.
