The Cons Are Prevailing with Jerod Mayo

Our football team sits at 3–9, and things haven’t gotten much better aside from any draft implications. It isn’t totally on the head coach with a roster like this, but we have to take a 200-foot look at this situation with Mayo currently…

Pros: Current players are bought into him, has support from certain former players, fundamentals evident in the wins.

Cons: Poor defensive unit/disappointing secondary, questionable situational football (timing of 2-point conversions, 4th down decisions, timeouts), has above-average difficulty with the media, somewhat inconsistent treatment of individual players and their situations.

Do I want to come out and lash against Mayo like this? Not necessarily, and it was genuinely tough to come up with more pros. For a coach Robert Kraft felt so strongly about, the reality is this team could be playing better with a different head coach.

This isn’t ever about the Black head coach having a short leash. The list shows Mayo has been too much of a negative on the sidelines come gameday—and at times in the team facilities. It’s hurting, above all, that this defensive head coach has been leading a talented secondary that has simply been picked apart too often.

The roster needs to vastly improve, but it would have been nice to know the dependable pieces you have on the roster—as a certain someone talked about recently—if the coach was doing a good job of progressing the players.

  1. The thing is honestly I could see Jerod Mayo being like a Todd Bowles type where he can foster a sort of more casual environment that plays fun football and gets to the wild card every other year, but I CANNOT see him winning a Super Bowl. Like just picturing the image of Jerod Mayo with a the Lombardi in his hand??? The only way I am ever going to see something like that is by typing it in an AI prompt , cause he CANNOT “coach up” any players , he can only not get in the way of their current skill. Like if you give him Mahomes he’s not going to do what Reid does and win super bowls, but Mahomes will still play like Mahomes. that doesnt really make any sense but idk it sounded good in my head
