If one was hesitant to buy in on a potential Soto signing, these new reports could be somewhat of a breath of fresh air. This touches on the one and only obstacle to the Red Sox acquiring talent.
The Red Sox’ interest in great players has always been whispered about, but a big name like David Ortiz has never been mentioned to back up these talks. Along with this, and Sam Kennedy’s recent list of projections, it appears that the Red Sox—for the first time in a long time—are going to acquire big talent this offseason.
Could ownership be using yet another version of a smokescreen? To include a legacy player to do this would be more than diabolical, so I doubt it. It looks encouraging that the reason Soto will or won’t sign with us will come down to his own preference—not dollar signs.
