The Ghosts of Bloom’s Past: Who Stays, Who Goes?

Assuming John Henry and the gang actually want to spend, the Red Sox have a nice—but stressful—issue on their hands: which of these five prospects should be used to improve in the now via trade?

The prospects I ultimately land on as non-negotiables are OF Roman Anthony and C Kyle Teel. The others—whether it be IF/OF Kristian Campbell, OF Braden Montgomery, or SS Marcelo Mayer—should be willing trade pieces for next season’s aspirations.

You build and market a franchise better with a potentially standout catcher like Teel or a flashy outfielder like Anthony, and you can get away without young infielder prospects, assuming you still have a Devers and/or Casas headlining that group anyway.

Anthony and Teel are the ones you should be most excited about—and it’s awfully ironic that Bloom is responsible for half of this franchise’s excitement for next season…

  1. If your ranking them based off of coolness-of-name, I wouldn’t trade Roman Anthony for the reincarnation of Babe Ruth.

Kyle Teel should be shipped out yesterday.

The others are kind of lame. Kristian Campbell makes me think of soup, and Braden Montgomery sounds like the name of a dog bullpen arm that has one good year and falls off.

    Marcelo Mayer has potential.
