Patriots Shopping the Right Potential Subtractions

Besides maybe Davon Godchaux, these players that we are willing to give up are what I’ve long thought to be fluff. Impactful in some ways? Sure, but these are players that aren’t truly impactful for this system — and so far, not for the style of the modern NFL.

Davon Godchaux: Great stopper for the run. We need more of him on the roster.
Kyle Dugger: Physically great safety, but lacks the coverage skill to combat modern offenses. If you keep Peppers, you don’t need Dugger.
Kendrick Bourne: A “cool” receiver — not explosive, but good for games against teams missing players.
Tyquan Thornton: If the field were a speed track, he’d have a little value. Anything you get for him is a huge positive.

If the Patriots can get impactful pieces that fit the modern NFL skillset on either side of the ball, these players can definitely be dealt away. The Patriots need to at least half-reset the chemistry of this roster.

It’s been too long that this organization has sucked — better moves better be coming…

  1. I agree with most takes!!! Except for Bourne he’s kept a cool head all season long even though he had reason not to. I would hardly say we need him or anything but it’s fine if we keep him.
