Far, far too often, the past few years of guys like Hampus Lindholm have been spent making these types of boneheaded decisions. After his first year with us, the mental mistakes have been continuous.
These errors have permeated throughout the defensive pairings as well. The hesitancy to decide effectively what to do with the puck—or when to get physical with oncoming forwards—has been an issue even for guys like Charlie McAvoy.
This is the larger issue in my estimation. The defense was supposed to be your foundation, and it’s very far from being that because of their 5’8″ mentality. The defense needs better coaching and more self-created buy-in.
You can point to depth offensively; you can only point to idiocy defensively…
