Fans who understand how rebuilding teams work in this league should be hesitant to lean into selling. Let’s look at some elements this team shows in spurts but could definitely use more of:
Fresher legs:
As seen with Poitras’ call-up and even Lattieri’s, the Bruins’ desired style of play—simple, fast forechecking—comes easier to players with less mileage. You see the impact almost immediately in how fresher legs pressure defensemen and rigorously defend their own zone.
Simple minds:
With a history of hesitance in shooting and entry situations, this team could always use a more decisive player. The kind who dumps the puck to oncoming teammates and takes shots themselves would thrive here.
Physical styles:
With the defense either banged up or hesitant to lean into physicality, this team could use another Andrew Peeke–type defenseman. This kind of player is willing to hit at any moment and clears opponents out of front of Swayman.
Current players could certainly improve in embracing our new forechecking identity, but enough time has passed to also suggest the team needs an infusion of fresh talent.
