Bruins’ Win Over Panthers Reveals Potential Playoff Blueprint

The Bruins are probably a wild card team at best when it comes to potential playoff seeding. But if they are a wild card, it’s still fair to project their blueprint for the rest of the season and beyond.

Zadorov wearing down opposing forwards:
As we saw this afternoon vs. the Panthers, Nikita Zadorov can sap the energy and effectiveness of opposing forwards’ puck battles with his physicality. There have been questions about his acquisition due to his occasional disregard for the defensive structure, but it might be wise to hold out for when his impactful physical presence reaches full form come playoff time.

Forwards helping cover the slot:
The Bruins have struggled to cover the slot area in their own zone all season, but it was better today vs. Florida. Thanks to forwards backchecking and collectively protecting the slot, the Panthers’ scoring opportunities were at least moderately less dangerous.

Blocking shots:
As noted above, the Bruins clogged shooting lanes, and every bit of that counts. The ability to absorb point shots tops off these defensive-zone teaching points that can give this team a fighting chance come playoff time.

In the meantime, this team will look to add or retool the roster while staying afloat in the regular-season standings.

Response

  1. I think giving the whole team LASIK to convince them every team they play is the Panthers would go a long way to improving our consistency.

    Good compete!! Good win!
