Rumor: Casas Trade as Alonso Replacement?

Out of all the details surrounding the Triston Casas trade rumors, this is one fans should be on board with. There’s a solid case to be made for moving on from Casas—assuming you have a strong replacement in mind.

Casas’ mentality/injuries: Casas has shown flashes of steady brilliance—anyone should agree with that—but ultimately, his quirky nature and proneness to injury could darken his future. You wonder if he can go full seasons without injury, and whether he has the competitive fire to overcome setbacks and give his team consistent, reliable play.

RHH balance: If you could ship Casas for promising pitching and let your multiple LHH prospects naturally fill out the balance of the lineup, that bodes well for the organization. With LHH players like OF Roman Anthony and IF Marcelo Mayer being closer to the big leagues, you have LHH bats to spare—making room for needed RHH additions.

Another star to point to: With RHH Pete Alonso, the team gains another big-name player capable of leading the batting order and headlining media coverage. This would help players like Rafael Devers—who currently carry the weight of leadership both on and off the field—and inject a power surge the team has sorely lacked.

All in all, this would be a solid trade and signing to make, all while finally showing the fanbase that ownership can spend. With 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s future in flux with the Blue Jays, you could even go short-term with Alonso to set yourself up for that possibility.

  1. I am not against trading Casas, but his potential is so much higher than any of these cronies!!!

Also “quirky nature” I totally agree with!!! No one with painted fingernails should be batting cleanup!!!!
