The Red Sox can never afford a playoff exit or miss, and this upcoming season is no different. This team has the opportunity to make use of its own resources and spend on outside help.
Higher-ups recognizing that the starters aren’t untouchable—in addition to the usual prospect names they could deal away—is a great development. No player should be off-limits in trade talks. This way, the team’s defensive capabilities and approach at the plate can be maximized.
Spend big money on pitching, and trade for the hitters and fielders you see as the best fit for consistent playoff runs. We can be the Boston Red Sox again—it’s up to the higher-ups to actually do the thing.
