As Brad Marchand gets older and his legs’ mileage continues to increase, it’s becoming evident that he and his linemates need help in the form of skill and capability. The tweet above just goes to show the contrast in Montgomery’s handling of Marchand and others during this awakening of an offensive problem.
With last year’s and this year’s film to work with, it’s evident to the unbiased eye that Brad Marchand simply isn’t the same player. The top six forwards were the issue coming into the season, and with the lack of statistical output so far, this issue should be clear to management.
In the meantime, we hope for Marchand to gain some confidence and hopefully get more opportunities from his teammates’ increased compete level. When the moment comes midseason, make the proper additions to help Marchand out.
He’s still the player you want in an expected playoff gauntlet down the line…
